Mohegan Tribe late paying tax bill in Massachusetts

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is eagerly pursuing a commercial casino in Massachusetts but was late paying a property tax bill on the proposed gaming site.

The Palmer Republican said the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority paid the bill on the 152-acre site 28 days late. The tribe owed more than $16,000, which included interest and a late fee.

The tribe is leasing the site in Palmer. As part of the agreement, the tribe said it will pay quarterly tax bills.

Commercial gaming is not yet legal in Massachusetts.
