Mohegan Tribe drops option on off-reservation casino

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has stopped paying to maintain an option on an off-reservation casino site in Wisconsin, The New London Day reports.

The tribe still wants to manage the casino sought by the Menominee Nation, vice chairwoman Lynn Malerba told the paper. But the Mohegans won't be making quarterly payments on the Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha.

The Bush administration rejected the casino, saying it was too far from the Menominee Reservation. The Menominee Nation has sued the Obama administration in hopes of overturning policies that restrict off-reservation gaming.

The Mohegans aren't involved in the lawsuit.
