The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has reached an agreement with Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R) to limit smoking at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The tribe said the deal respects its sovereignty. "The governor stood by her word, and we stood by ours," the tribe said in a statement quoted by The Hartford Courant.
The agreement is similar to one that Rell signed with the Mohegan Tribe. Smoking is limited to certain parts of the gaming floor and the tribe invested in a state-of-the-art ventilation system.
The tribes oppose a bill that would ban smoking throughout their casinos.
