Arizona tribes saw another drop in gaming revenues in the last quarter, although they appear to have rebounded somewhat.
According to the latest report, the tribes shared $22.1 million with the state for the first quarter of 2009, a 9.4 percent drop. That wasn't as bad as the 16.1 percent seen in the last quarter of 2008.
"Although we are not happy with 9.4 percent, at least we're fortunate not to see the 20 percent decreases in Atlantic City and Las Vegas," Wendell Long, the chief executive of the gaming enterprise division for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, told The Tucson Citizen.
"Current decline in tribal gaming revenue in Arizona is only about half of what is being reported at tourist destinations such as Las Vegas," Mark Brnovich, the director of the Arizona Department of Gaming, said in a press release.
