Public hearing on Standing Rock Sioux Tribe compact

The South Dakota Gaming Commission held a public hearing on a proposed revision to the Class III gaming compact for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The compact is the first to be renegotiated since Gov. Mike Rounds (R) took office. The revision extends the agreement by 10 years but it does not allow the tribe to offer more than 250 slot machines or raise betting limits.

Tribes have complained about the slot machine limit in their compacts. Non-Indian gaming, meanwhile, has grown by leaps and bounds in the state.
