Commissioners in Mahnomen County, Minnesota, won't appeal a lawsuit over property taxes at the casino owned by the White Earth Band of Ojibwe Indians. The tribe opened the Shooting Star Casino on land that was acquired through the White Earth Land Settlement Act. Judge Michael J. Davis said the law protected the tribe's property. The ruling was a victory for the tribe and some commissioners wanted to appeal. The board voted 3-2 not to pursue the case.
