Connecticut tribes help gamblers stay away

Connecticut's two federally recognized tribes were the first in the U.S. to adopt "self-exclusion" lists that help problem gamblers stay away from casinos.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation was the first in 1994, followed by the Mohegan Tribe in 1996, The Norwich Bulletin reports. The Pequots don't disclose how many have signed up but the Mohegans say more than 1,700 are on their list.

At Foxwoods Resort Casino, the Pequots offer options: self-exclusion for two years, five years or for life. At Mohegan Sun, the list is for life.

Both tribes maintain a photographic database so security can eject people who come back.
