Florida committee restricts Seminole compact

The Seminole Tribe will lose its card games under a proposed Class III gaming compact under consideration in the Florida Legislature.

The tribe has been operating slot machines and card games under a compact it signed with Gov. Charlie Crist (R). But the Florida Supreme Court ruled that Crist overstepped his authority by allowing the card games.

The Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review has come up with a new deal that limits the tribe to slot machines. The change would affect how much money the tribe is willing to share with the state.
