Spokane Tribe pushes off-reservation casino

The Spokane Tribe is moving forward with a proposed off-reservation casino in Washington.

The tribe wants 145 acres placed in trust for a $130 million casino and hotel. The project would generate an estimated 2,100 jobs.

To gain support from local communities, the tribe is offering to pay for lost property taxes on the land. The money would go to the city of Airway Heights and Spokane County.

The Kalispel Tribe operates an off-reservation casino in Airway Heights. It is one of only three that have been approved under the two-part determination process of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
