Florida Baptists oppose expansion of gaming

The Florida Baptist Convention continues to oppose a Class III gaming compact for the Seminole Tribe.

The group told the Florida Legislature's Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review that gaming hurts families. “We ask in unprecedented times you do not authorize additional increases in the size, volume, quantity or scope of gambling on Seminole Tribal lands or any lands within the state of Florida," legislative consultant Bill Bunkley testified on February 12, The Florida Baptist Witness reported.

The Baptists also oppose legislation to allow race tracks to offer the same games as the tribe. The tracks already have slot machines and say they are entitled to card games.
