The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe supports a bill that seeks to discourage a casino near the South Dakota-Iowa border.
The Royal River Casino is located in Flandreau, not far from the Iowa border. The tribe is worried that the proposed Iowa casino would hurt its business.
''With respect to my client, it's a matter of life and death,'' said tribal lobbyist Fed Assam, the Associated Press reported.
The tribe supports SJ1, a proposed constitutional amendment that would authorize a casino in Sioux Falls. The move is intended to discourage the Iowa casino, which would be located less than 20 miles from Sioux Falls.
