Editorial: Casinos a growing industry in Oklahoma

"The economic slowdown that's affected Indian gaming from Connecticut to California and resulted in casino foreclosure threats elsewhere apparently has not struck Oklahoma, where growth continues in the industry.

Oklahoma ranks second, just behind California, in revenue generated from tribes' gaming enterprises, according to the Indian Gaming Industry Report for 2009-2010.

Oklahoma has the most tribal gaming centers and the second-largest number of Indian gaming machines. The state accounted for almost 40 percent of the total increase in gaming machines nationwide.

Last year, Oklahoma tribal casinos captured $2.9 billion in gaming revenue. California Indian casinos had $7.3 billion. Meanwhile, nationwide growth rate for tribal gaming revenue was less than 2 percent. "
