The chief executive officer of gaming for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate of South Dakota has been fired for what he claims is retaliation.
Michael J. Roberts was suspended without pay from Dakota Nation Gaming Enterprise after he said he complained about a Dakota Magic Casino who was allegedly writing bad checks. “I have written proof of all this stuff,” he told The Fargo Forum.
Roberts was fired on October 2. Chairman Michael Selvage said in a letter that the former executive hired a law firm without authorization.
"The decision to terminate Mr. Roberts’ employment with the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate was initiated prior to his allegations of wrongdoing and is independently justified," the tribe's lawyer said in a statement to the Forum.
Roberts said he has turned over information about the bad checks to federal and state officials.
