A key lawmaker won't be calling a hearing on a Class III gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
The hearing was scheduled for October 5. But Rep.
Bill Galvano (R), who chairs the Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review, said he will instead look at broader gaming issues.
“We’ve worked very hard to try to reach a balance, between the state’s interest and the tribe’s interest and the interests of our pari-mutuel community, but I’m not sure if it’s even possible to do given the last proposal that came from the tribe,” said Galvano, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
Gov. Charlie Crist wanted lawmakers to take up the compact in October but it looks like it won't be considered until December at the earliest.
