Senate letter questions gaming land transfers

A letter from Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada), Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Arizona) and Sen. John Ensign (R-Nevada) says taking land into trust for gaming purposes "violates the spirit" of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

The letter was sent to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. It calls for more scrutiny of land-into-trust applications for gaming projects, The San Francisco Business Times reported.

The Obama administration is weighing land-into-trust applications for two California tribes that plan to open casinos in the Bay Area.
