North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue (D) said she is open to a new Class III gaming compact with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
“I am going to have a conversation. I don't know what the contract allows, but we're going to work together,” Perdue told The Asheville Citizen-Times during a visit to the reservation yesterday.
The tribe has wanted to add card games to the Harrah's Cherokee Casino. Negotiations with former governor Mike Easley (D) failed in 2006 and there are currently no proposals on the table.
"Things are at a standstill right now,” Chief Michell Hicks told the paper.
