The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan opened the doors to the FireKeepers Casino on Wednesday. The tribe spent 18 months building the $300 million, 236,000-square-foot facility. Construction began after a lengthy legal battle over the acquisition of the gaming site. "We're happy to see it open on time, under budget and without injury," said Chairwoman Laura Spurr, The Battle Creek Enquirer reported. The casino features 2,680 slot machines, 78 table games, a 120-seat poker room, a 300-seat multi-purpose and bingo room, five restaurants and two bars. “The lights, the ambience, it’s very, very beautiful, not like any of the other Indian casinos I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to them all,” remarked patron Ed Cohon, 69.
