Agua Caliente casino makes a 'Show' of boxing

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians made a big push to promote a boxing event at its new casino theater.

The tribe took out full-page ads and put up billboards to draw customers to The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa. The venue, which has hosted music events, opened in February.

"I'm so excited about what that says about our property and what the tribe has put into this part of the country,” marketing director Phil Cooper told The Palm Springs Desert Sun. “We want Southern California, California and this country to know we're a player."

The effort appeared to be a success. A sold-out crowd watched local boxer Timothy Bradley defeat Nate Campbell and retain the WBO light welterweight title. Showtime broadcast the fight.
