The city council in La Center, Washington, voted 3-2 against negotiating a casino deal with the Cowlitz Tribe.
About 100 people turned out for a meeting where the issue was discussed, The Columbian reported. About half of the speakers supported a deal while the rest opposed it, the paper said.
Mayor Jim Irish opposes the casino but wanted the city to negotiate. He believes the tribe will build the $150 million Cowlitz Casino Resort regardless of local views.
