The Eastern Band of Cherokee
Indians is moving to bring alcohol to its casino in North Carolina.
Tribal voters approved the sale of alcohol at the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. The tribe will apply for a state liquor license and could be selling alcohol within six months.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Norma Moss of the tribe's gaming enterprise board told The Asheville Citizen-Times. “We are taking this one step at a time.”
Supporters say alcohol sales will generate as much as $70 million a year at the casino, where revenues have fallen in the past year.
