A former council member for the Seminole Nation of
Oklahoma was sentenced to five months in prison in bribery case involving the tribe's gaming partner.
Ricky Van Deer, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice. He admitted he accepted gifts from Ivy Ong, who was the tribe's former partner, and attempted to cover it up.
The Seminole Nation was forced to shut down its gaming facilities and pay a
hefty fine to the National Indian
Gaming Commission for its dealings with Ong.
