Officials in Glendale, Arizona, say they will press Larry EchoHawk, the new leader of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, to reject the off-reservation casino sought by the Tohono O’odham Nation.
If EchoHawk doesn't bite, the city might file a lawsuit. "We have lots of different avenues, and quite frankly, we might do them all," the city's attorney told The Arizona Republic.
The tribe acquired 134 acres using funds that were authorized by an act of Congress. The tribe says it qualifies for an exception in Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
