The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Paragon Casino and Resort.
The original name of the facility was the Grand Casino Avoyelles. It now employs 1,600 people.
"Those are all people that have a check coming in, and they're going to buy at local stores. We don't have too many factories around here. To have an employer like that, it's helped the economy a lot," James Bernard, a local business owner, told The Alexandria Town Talk.
According to the University of New Orleans' Division of Business and Economic Research, the casino's economic impact on Avoyelles Parish was $119.5 million in 2008. The tribe has made $25 million in direct payments to the parish since 1994.
