A bill that sought to ban smoking at tribal casinos in Connecticut is officially dead after a legislative committee failed to bring it up for a vote.
Democrats pushed for the ban, citing the impacts on casino workers. Republicans opposed it, saying it infringed on tribal sovereignty.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe promised lawsuits and said they would lose revenues. Both tribes have made agreements with Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R) to limit smoking at their facilities.
