Muscogee judge sides with chief in gaming dispute

A Muscogee (Creek) Nation judge sided with Chief A.D. Ellis in a dispute over the distribution of gaming revenues.

Ellis issued executive orders in January that stripped six tribal communities of their share of casino funds. He was worried about financial mismanagement.

The judge agreed and said the sharing of revenues was illegal and could lead to substantial fines from the National Indian Gaming Commission. The judge asked the six communities for an account of the funds they have already received.

The communities were receiving 50 percent of the revenues from their local tribal casino.
