A bill to ban smoking at Connecticut's two tribal casino passed a state House committee on Monday.
The bill requires the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe to enter into agreements with the state to eliminate smoking by October 1, 2011. Both tribes say the measure infringes on their sovereignty.
The Mohegans have already vowed to cut down smoking in public places at Mohegan Sun. The Pequots plan to do the same at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
