The Mohegan Tribe wants to build a smaller version of its casino in Connecticut in a neighboring state.
Mohegan Sun, chief executive Mitchell Etess said a casino in western Massachusetts will boost the economy. He said the state shouldn't limit legalized gaming to slot machines.
Gov. Deval Patrick (D) proposed legislation to authorize three commercial casinos but the bill failed last year. His administration is now discussing the possibility of slot machine parlors.
The tribe is eyeing a 152-acre site in Palmer for development.
