More than a year after launching its casino bid, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts will be taking a second look at the project.
The tribe envisioned a huge resort to rival the ones in nearby Connecticut. But the tribe has commissioned a study to determine whether the casino site in Middleboro will meet its needs.
"The economy has changed since then," vice chairman Aaron Tobey told The Cape Cod Times.
The tribe submitted land-into-trust applications to the Bureau of Indian Affairs after its federal recognition was finalized in May 2007. The U.S. Supreme Court
decision in Carcieri
v. Salazar could affect the tribe's ability to proceed.
