Pala Band expands casino amid economic concerns

The Pala Band of Mission Indians of California expects to open a major expansion of its casino by the end of May. The tribe began work on the Pala Casino Spa and Resort last December. Officials are concerned about the economic climate and they have delayed the hotel component of the expansion. "We're facing the same challenges as everyone else," chief executive Bill Bembenek told The North County Times. "The tribe understands that you have to invest in your business." The tribe is adding 60,000 square-feet to the casino. The expansion includes a poker room, two new restaurants, an expanded buffet and 400 more parking garage spaces. Get the Story:
