The Tohono O'odham Nation says its proposed off-reservation casino will benefit the tribe and the Phoenix area.
The tribe wants to build a $500 million-$600 million resort in Glendale. The resort would create 1,400 direct jobs and thousands of construction jobs.
"We think this is probably the gold mine for us here," Chairman Ned Norris Jr. told The Arizona Republic.
The tribe acquired the land for the site with funds that were authorized by an act of Congress. The tribe says it qualifies for a land claim exception in the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act.
