The Tohono O'odham Nation announced plans for an off-reservation casino near Phoenix, Arizona. The tribe plans a $550 million, 1.2 million square-foot casino on 134 acres in Glendale The facility would include a 600-room hotel, eight restaurants and dozens of shops. The land was purchased with funds authorized by an act of Congress. Chairman Ned Norris Jr. said the tribe qualifies for a land claim exception under Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. If the land is placed in trust, the tribe hopes to start construction sometime this year. The casino could be finished by 2012. Get the Story:
