Eastern Cherokees weigh sites for Class II casino

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is considering sites for a Class II casino on its reservation in North Carolina.

A feasibility study authorized three years ago is about 30 percent complete, a tribal council member said. Officials are looking at locations in either Cherokee or Graham counties although no decisions have been made.

The tribe operates the Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel in Jackson County. Officials say a Class II facility won't draw business away from the tribe's primary money maker.
