Official resigns over Mashpee casino controversy

A Massachusetts town leader resigned his post on Monday, citing the "all-consuming" controversy surrounding the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Adam Bond, the chairman of the selectmen in the town of Middleboro, wanted to reopen the town's intergovernmental agreement with the tribe. He criticized colleagues who didn't want a better casino deal.

The tribe has come under scrutiny due to the resignation and guilty plea of its former chairman, who negotiated the casino deal.
