NIGC approves Seneca Nation gaming ordinance

The Seneca Nation of New York said it has won approval for its off-reservation casino from the National Indian Gaming Commission.

The tribe said approval of an amended gaming ordinance for the Buffalo Creek Casino in Buffalo confirms that the land for the facility can be used for gaming. A federal judge had ruled otherwise in an ongoing lawsuit.

The action came in the final hours of the Bush administration. The officials in charge at the NIGC are expected to stay on board until President Barack Obama and his team can make new nominations and appointments at the agency.
