A medicine man said he's worried about the spiritual impact of the first Navajo Nation casino.
Gibson Gonnie said he's most upset about elders who visit the Fire Rock Casino near Gallup, New Mexico. "It’s not a good feeling for me to see an elder here. It’s one of the things that just kind of makes me with an uncomfortable feeling," he told The Gallup Independent.
Gonnie recalled a Navajo story about "He Who Wins You Over," a spirit who cheated the Navajo people before being driven away. He said the spirit has returned with the opening of the casino.
"That’s how he’s going to get back at us," Gonnie said.
