Big drop in Saginaw Chippewa gaming payments

The downturn in the national economy has definitely hit the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan.

Every year, the tribe shares 2 percent of electronic gaming proceeds with local governments. This year, the payments are down 15 percent from 2007.

“This is the lowest distribution we have made in 12 years,” spokesperson Joe Sowmick told The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun.

The 2007 payment was 7.2 percent lower than 2006.
