Auburn Tribe scales back casino expansion

The United Auburn Indian Community of California is scaling back a $1 billion expansion of the Thunder Valley Casino.

A spokesperson said the tribe is responding to the downturn in the economy. "It's important given the uncertainty about future market demands to look at the situation and reassess the project," Doug Elmets told The Sacramento Bee.

The tribe already broke ground on the expansion, which includes a hotel. The project is due to be completed in 2010.
