The Cowlitz Tribe is working on a new casino agreement with Clark County, Washington.
The two sides previously agreed to address the impacts of the Cowlitz Casino Resort on the local community. But their deal was struck down due to inadequate public comment.
The tribe subsequently incorporated the agreement in a gaming ordinance that was approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission. Both sides resumed talks and a county official said progress was being made.
In related news, David Barnett has sold a portion of his stake in the casino to the Paskenta Band of the Nomlaki Indians of California. Barnett is a tribal member and the son of the late John Barnett, the longtime chairman of the tribe who died in June.
