Few seek help after Mashantucket job cuts

Few of the 700 gaming employees who were laid off by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation have sought social-service assistance, The New London Day reports.

The tribe cut about 6 percent of the workforce at Foxwoods Resort Casino due to declining revenues and the downturn in the national economy. Social-service agencies began outreach to help the people affected by the layoffs.

But only 100 to 120 people have taken advantage of the services so officials are taking steps to inform former workers about programs they might need.
