Penobscot Nation has plans for gaming facility

The Penobscot Nation of Maine is planning to open a gaming facility of some sort on its reservation.

The tribe says the facility will be legal under state law even though state voters have rejected the tribe's gaming proposals in the past. Plans will be announced in the coming months.

"We have gambling aspirations," Chief Kirk Francis told The Portland Press Herald. "We expect that's going to be a very contentious situation."

Voters have approved non-Indian gaming facilities in the past. Another one is on the November 4 ballot.
