Poarch Band busy expanding casino operation

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians debuted an expansion of its Riverside Casino in Wetumpka, Alabama, last week.

The 39,000 square-foot casino is more than double the size of the original facility. The tribe added 900 electronic gaming machines, a 252-seat buffet and a parking deck to the casino.

Meanwhile, the tribe continues work on the $250 million Wind Creek Casino and Hotel in Atmore. The project includes a 236-room hotel, 1,600 electronic gaming machines, a 300-seat buffet restaurant and conference facilities.

The tribe is limited to Class II gaming. The state refuses to negotiate a Class III compact and is trying to block the Interior Department from issuing secretarial procedures for the tribe.
