Citing a drop in revenues and the downturn in the national economy, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is laying off 700 gaming employees, or about 6 percent of the workforce.
The cut will affect jobs at all areas of the Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods. The MGM facility just opened in May.
Connecticut's two tribal casinos have been hurt by dwindling slot machine runs over the past several months. The Mohegan Tribe suspended a major expansion of the Mohegan Sun casino due to economic woes.
