Officials in Pottawattamie
County, Iowa, will wait another week before taking a stance on the casino being sought by the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.
The county plans to meet with the tribe before deciding what course to take. Options include joining a lawsuit already filed by the state of Nebraska, joining one that the state of Iowa plans to file or filing a separate lawsuit.
The county could also do nothing. But some are pressuring officials to take action, citing a study that claims the tribe's casino will hurt the three commercial casinos in the county.
Class III gaming is legal in Iowa, where the tribe plans to build the casino in the city of Carter Lake. The only way to reach Carter Lake is through Nebraska, where Class III gaming is not legal.
