Eastern Cherokee per caps peak at $9,300

Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians receive a share of casino profits but the per capita payments have peaked at around $9,300, The Smoky Mountain News reports.

The yearly payment isn't expected to increase until 2011. But the tribe's gaming enterprise board believes the sale of liquor at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino will boost payments by $1,000 a year.

The tribal council agreed to schedule a reservation-wide vote on the issue. A significant number of tribal members oppose the sale of liquor.
