California county rejects gaming referendum

The board of supervisors in Butte County, California, won't schedule a voter referendum on Indian gaming due to lack of support.

Supervisors instead decide to hold a hearing to address the impacts of gaming. The hearing is tentatively set for September 23.

The county is home to two casinos and more are being proposed. The county is suing the National Indian Gaming Commission in hopes of blocking the Mechoopda Tribe from building a casino in Chico.
