California tribe worried about state lottery plan

The United Auburn Indian Community says California tribes are being threatened by a proposal to expand the state lottery.

The tribe says a draft of the proposed constitutional amendment would allow the state to offer Keno and devices similar to slot machines. "It's a bold and dramatic departure from the status quo," attorney Howard Dickstein told The Sacramento Bee.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) wants to expand the lottery to generate more revenue from the state. A spokesperson said the proposed amendment will not authorize Keno, which was outlawed 12 years ago.
