Sycuan Band delays expansion under new compact

The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians and three other California tribe spent $100 million to convince voters to approve their Class III gaming compacts.

But the Sycuan Band has yet to make the deal official under tribal law. The tribe's general council has delayed ratification of the compact since December 2006, or more than a year ago.

Tribal officials won't say why they haven't approved the compact. It would allow the tribe to install 1,000 more slot machines at the Sycuan Resort & Casino and open another casino. The state gets a cut of the slot revenues.
