The
Ponca Tribe says its proposed casino will boost the economy in Iowa and Nebraska.
The tribe plans to build a casino in Carter Lake, Iowa. Carter Lake is located next to Nebraska.
The casino will create 1,800 new jobs, draw 2.9 million visitors annually and add $130 million to the economies of Iowa and Nebraska, according to the tribe.
Iowa and
Nebraska are suing over the casino. They say the tribe promised not to use the site for gaming when it was taken into trust.
The
National Indian Gaming Commission
supported the tribe's right to use the land for casino in a
December
31, 2007 ruling.
