County criticizes Rumsey Band casino expansion

The board of supervisors in Yolo County, California, approved a letter objecting to the casino expansion sought by the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians.

The tribe plans to double the number of hotel rooms at the Cache Creek Casino Resort and increase the gaming floor space. Plans also call for a 62,500-square-foot event center, more shops and restaurants and additional parking space.

County supervisors said the tribe's draft environmental impact report underestimates the impact of such an undertaking. The letter cites increased traffic and a need for more housing.

The tribe is taking comments on the report until June 16.
