Seminole Tribe predicts quick end to compact lawsuit

The Seminole Tribe of Florida said a lawsuit challenging its Class III gaming compact is going nowhere.

The tribe signed an agreement with Gov. Charlie Crist (R) for slot machines and card games at its Hard Rock casinos. The compact was approved by the Interior Department.

Pompano Park Isle Casino, a non-Indian casino, is now suing Crist and Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne in federal court, arguing that the compact violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

But Seminole attorney Barry Richard said the case can't proceed without the tribe's involvement. And since the tribe enjoys sovereign immunity, it can't be joined without its consent.
